Prophecy Prophecy

What does the Bible have to say about the future? Has it been correct in it's prophecies in the past? The Bible is about 1/3 prophecy. Some of these predictions were about Jesus's first coming. For instance: that he would be born of a virgin in the town of Bethlehem. Here is a list of over 350 Old Testament prophecies that were fulfilled by Jesus's first coming. If all of these events were fulfilled to the very detail, we can trust that what the Bible has to say about future events will also be accurate.

Why Study Prophecy?

The Bible says we will not know the date or hour when Christ will return, but we should know the signs and seasons and be watching. When one studies end time events and sees some of the signs being fulfilled, it generates a lot of excitement and makes one examine his life to see if he is ready for Christ to come again at any moment. The apostle John said, "but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifies himself, even as he is pure." 1 John 3:2-3

The Big Picture

So just what is the big picture of the end times?

1) Nation of Israel: Israel was destroyed in 70AD by the Romans and the Jews were scattered into all the nations. Never has a nation risen from the dead like Israel did on May 14, 1948. Many verses speak of Israel being scattered among the nations then re-gathered to their homeland and of their land that was a dry and baron wasteland, blooming and producing at their return. Isaiah 11:12, Ezekiel 36-27, Jeremiah 31:10, Isaiah 66:8

2) Beginning of Birth Pains: When the end times are getting close there will be wars, roaring of the seas, famines, and earthquakes that get more frequent and more intense like labor pains. People will be lovers of themselves, disobedient to parents…  Luke 21:7-35, Matthew 24, 2 Timothy 3:1-5

3) The Rapture: True Christians (the saints) will rise to meet Jesus in the clouds. Will spend the next 7 years in heaven. Like a Jewish wedding the groom prepares a home for the bride, then comes to get her like a thief in the night (she does not know the date or time), he takes her to the bridal chamber for 7 days, then they come out and have a marriage feast with the guests. See 1 Corinthians 15:49-53, I Thessalonians 4:13-18, 5:9-10, Isaiah 26:19-21, John 14:3, Revelation 3:10 The word “caught up” comes from the Latin word rapturo. It is used in Acts 8:39 when Philip is translated. The church is seen in heaven in Revelation 4-5

4) The Gog-Magog War: Jerusalem will be a cup of trembling Zechariah 12:1. Russia, Turkey, Iran, and others will align to attack Jerusalem, God will intervene and miraculously save Israel causing Israel to turn back to God. Ezekiel 38-39

5) New World Order: A 10 nation confederation will rise from the old Roman empire giving birth to the anti-Christ (someone who looks like Christ, a world leader that will promise peace and security Revelation 13:1-10). He will make a peace treaty with Israel for 7 years. Daniel 7:27. The Jewish temple will be rebuilt in Jerusalem. The Temple Institute in Jerusalem is preparing all of the items necessary for the new temple. 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, Revelation 11:1-2. A world religion combining all faiths, led by the false prophet will unite the people in worship. Revelation 13:11-18

6) Tribulation: God will pour out great tribulation on all who have rejected Christ. But God demonstrates His great mercy by sending angels and people to preach the gospel, that men should fear God and repent. All who do will be saved from God's wrath, but will have to face the anti-Christ's wrath. Revelation 6-18 In the middle of the seven years the Antichrist is killed and comes back to life. He puts an end to the daily sacrifice at the temple and goes into the holy of holies in the temple, declares himself to be god and demands worship. He requires everyone to get the mark of the beast in the forehead or right hand. You cannot buy or sell without this mark. Daniel 9:27, 11:31, 12:11 Rev 13:4, 14-15 2 Thes 2:1-12, Zach 11:17, Rev 13:16-18 It is a time for Israel to believe in the one they have pierced. Zechariah 12:9-10

7) Armageddon / 2nd Coming: All of the nations will be gathered together to war against Jerusalem. It will look hopeless! At that moment Jesus will return with all of the saints (those raptured and those martyred in the tribulation) and defeat his enemies in the battle of Armageddon. Revelation 19:11-15, Jude 1:14-15, Daniel 7:9-14, Zechariah 14:5, Isaiah 63

8) The Millennium: Jesus will reign for 1000 years from Jerusalem. There will finally be peace on earth.

9) The Judgement: The devil, the beast, and false prophet will be thrown into the lake of fire. All of the dead will be raised to life that were not in the rapture or martyred in the tribulation. They will be judged by their works. It will NOT be about your good deeds outweighing the bad, it will be about if you broke the law or not. If their names were not found in the book of life (of those who turned from their old life of sin and trusted in Christ’s blood to cover their sins) they were cast into the lake of fire. See Revelation 20:10-15

10) New Heavens and New Earth: God will create a new heaven and a new earth. He will live among his people. Will wipe away every tear. The river of life will flow with the tree of life planted on each side. The new Jerusalem will be made of transparent gold, the gates of pearl, and the walls of 12 gem stones. It will 1500 miles long, wide, and high. The splendor of God will illuminate it. See Revelation 21 & 22, 2 Peter 3:10, Ezekiel 47:12, Isaiah 65:17
